Federalist and Anti-Federalist

Federalist Paper #51
I had a hard time understanding the Federalist paper, but it seemed to me that they were wanting the states to have rights which is what the Anti-Federalists were completely against.

Anti-Federalist Paper #1
The main idea of the Anti-Federalist's is that the states aren't permitted to have any power and the central government should control everything. They believe that having a central government will obtain more power and being able to control the political aspects of the United States more easily.

When reading the papers before class today I really did not understand what they were talking about. During high school I was never good at political things and how they worked. After class today I got a better aspect of what the anti-federalist and federalist papers were about. The people of the United States were really confused on what they should agree with. The anti-federalist were really only concerned with having a minimal amount of people in charge so they could maximize the power. In the first very big paragraph that starts out "this government is to possess..." the anti-federalist wanted Congress to have all the control over every type of government. What I don't understand is what the big deal was about not letting each state have representatives and divide the power amongst them all. The Federalist paper was harder to read because of the terms they used in it. For instance in the opening of the paper when it says "To what expedient, then, shall we finally resort,..." Back when these papers were written education was not in high demand so if a moderate citizen was reading this they would be confused as was I when I read this. I couldn't grasp the thought of what the author was trying to say throughout the paper.
